Sriram Sankararaman uses statistical methods to study gene flows. He has been studying patterns of genetic variation in present-day Europeans to infer the date of gene flow from Neandertals into modern humans and to identify segments of Neandertal ancestry in present-day humans. These analyses reveal the dynamics of the interaction between the two populations and also show the impact of ancient gene flow on human biology. Dr. Sankararaman has recently accepted a tenure-track appointment at Stanford University.
